Organizations and projects¶
Outcome¶
You will create an organization and a project with clear data boundaries, or join an existing organization via invite or domain capture.
Before you begin¶
A registered account with a verified email is enough to create your first
organization. Additional projects can be created by a user with organization
admin or owner (first-class org_membership, ADR-0006 — no longer
derived from project roles).
Mental model¶
| Organization | Project | |
|---|---|---|
| Meaning | Company / tenant boundary | Workspace with data isolation |
| Contains | Projects, billing, domain capture | Connectors, knowledge, skills, approvals |
| Access | Groups people and projects | Membership is per project |
Access to data is always at project level. Invite people from Settings → Members on the active project. Org-wide roster and domain capture live under Settings → Organization.
Steps — create¶
- After registration, choose Create an organization on onboarding.
- Enter the organization name (slug is auto-derived under Advanced).
- Enter the first project name.
- Finish the wizard and connect a first source when prompted.
- To add another project, open Projects and create it in the organization.
- Connect sources only after confirming the active project in the switcher.
Steps — join¶
- Open the magic-link invite from email, or paste it under Join an existing one on onboarding.
- After accept, you land on the dashboard with the invited project active.
- Or, if domain capture is configured for your email domain: verify email, then use I've verified my email — check again on the join screen.
Domain capture (admin)¶
- Open Settings → Organization.
- Under Domain capture, add domains you control (e.g.
company.com). - Choose default role (
viewerormember). - New verified sign-ups at those domains join automatically (no invite).
Verify the result¶
The project appears in the switcher, and the creator has the owner role (or the invitee has the invited role).
Common problems¶
| Symptom | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A project cannot be created | You are not an administrator in the organization | Contact an organization owner |
| A user sees the organization but not the project | No project membership | Invite them under Settings → Members |
| Domain join silent | Unverified email or domain not listed | Verify email; check domain capture settings |
Next step¶
Add members, then connect sources.
